Advocacy Training and Issues Education

This online session prepares members attending May’s Legislative Fly-In for meetings with congressional offices and what to expect during IEC’s day on Capitol Hill. Jason Todd, IEC’s Vice President of Government Affairs, will be joined by David Lusk, Founder of Key Advocacy. They will discuss how critical the citizen advocate has become to an organization’s public policy efforts, research justifying the value of the citizen advocate, and why coming to Washington, DC, is one of the most vital aspects of being an IEC member. They will also review how to make the most of each office visit you conduct, and the importance of the congressional staff IEC members will meet on Capitol Hill. This webinar is a must for maximizing your time in our nation’s capital!

David Lusk, Founder of Key Advocacy, specializes in developing nationwide grassroots efforts and relationship-based, advanced engagement programs for associations, nonprofits and corporations. Since 2010, he has trained more than 7,000 nonprofit volunteers, advocates and C-Suite executives how to influence policymakers through the power of personal storytelling. His successes building some of DC’s top advanced advocacy programs are repeatedly recognized in industry publications, including by the National Journal and CEO Update magazine.

Key Advocacy creates advanced advocacy programs for associations, corporations and nonprofits, and also trains their stakeholders on relationship-based advocacy techniques for engaging both at the capital and in-district.

 

 

Electrical Safety Month - Electrical Safety During Disasters

Electricity moves the modern world, but when natural disasters occur, our ability to power our homes and businesses may be limited. While we cannot prevent natural disasters, we can take steps to ensure our communities are prepared when they do occur. This year’s National Electrical Safety Month will focus on electrical safety during natural disasters and topics include:

  • Preparation and Recovery from Natural Disasters for Businesses and Homes
  • Overhead Power Line Contact
  • Downed Power Line Contact

In conjunction with National Electrical Safety Month, the Electrical Safety Foundation International is introducing a new suite of workplace electrical safety resources to help reduce the number of electrically related injuries and deaths on worksites.

Brett Brenner is President of the Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI). Appointed as President in 2005, he has developed aggressive marketing and awareness campaigns to advance electrical safety. Such accesses have established ESFI as the primary source for unbiased electrical safety information to reduce the instances of fires, injuries, and deaths.

Mr. Brenner is a graduate of Radford University and is currently serving on the National Fire Protection Association’s Educational Messages Advisory Council and Underwriters Laboratories Consumer Advisory Council.

Earn CAE Credits

As a CAE Approved Provider, The Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) is an organization that has formally registered with the CAE program and committed to providing education that meets the CAE Commission’s standards for helping individuals earn or maintain the Certified Association Executive credential. CAE Approved Providers have received guidance on such standards and pledged to properly represent course eligibility for CAE credit. IEC is an approved provider and IEC's webinar series fulfills the professional development requirements to earn or maintain the CAE credential. Attendees will receive 1 CAE per webinar. It will be the responsibility of the attendee to document the contents of this webinar to submit to ASAE.
